Why it matters
Bloodlines places a role-playing game in nocturnal Los Angeles, where vampire factions hide within an otherwise familiar city. You choose a clan at the start, and that decision changes more than abilities. Nosferatu must avoid human eyes, while a Malkavian receives a distinctive dialogue script. Appearance, origins and speech become part of how you play. Dialogue, stealth, hacking and combat offer different approaches to many situations, although not every task permits every method.
Behind this apparent freedom lie the restrictions of vampire existence. You need blood while observing the Masquerade that hides the supernatural world from humans. Killing innocents costs humanity, so power does not remove the question of an action's price. City districts connect everyday places with secret conflicts, and talking to a character can matter more than another gunfight. The game is interesting for how it translates a tabletop role into first- or third-person action: a character sheet determines both a hero's effectiveness and how they perceive the city and receive its response.
